SOLARSAVE® ARCHITECTURAL PV GLASS

Open Energy Corporation also designs and manufactures custom PV glass laminates to meet the aesthetic, performance, and structural requirements of architects and design professionals. Sizes, shapes, and design configurations can be built to match virtually any specification available today, allowing for a direct substitution for monolithic, laminated, or insulated glass panel. It is often desirable to achieve translucency in photovoltaic skylight applications. While a standard photovoltaic cell is an opaque 125 mm2 square, our cells can be arranged within a clear glass panel to provide appropriate light levels and shading coefficients. A wide variety of colors, thickness, patterns, and shapes can be produced.

SOLARSAVE® BALANCE OF SYSTEMS
Open Energy Corporation designs and manufactures SolarSave® Balance of Systems components that complete the solar energy power conversion operation. The photovoltaic cells embedded in our tile, glass, or membrane products generate direct current (DC). SolarSave® Balance of System products, which include inverters, combiners, fuse blocks, and other accessories, convert the DC power into standard 120-volt alternating current (AC) and integrate it into the buildings system.
All SolarSave® Balance of System products are either UL or CSA certified, as well as NEC compliant. The products come in a range of sizes that complement the requirements of the particular PV installation. Open Energy Corporation provides consulting in the design, configuration, certification, installation, and service of SolarSave® Balance of System products directly or through our network of installers and solar integrators across the US and Canada.

SUNCONE™ CSP
Open Energy Corporation is the exclusive worldwide licensee of an exciting new solar thermal technology that has tremendous potential for the company. SunCone™ CSP (Concentrating Solar Power) is the creation of Dr. Melvin Prueitt, renowned physicist and research scientist from the Los Alamos National Laboratory. SunCone™ CSP utilizes non-imaging optical cones made of reflective composites to concentrate sunlight on rods at the base of each cone. The cones stay cool, but the fluid flowing through the base is superheated, generating steam that drives a turbine and produces electricity. This same superheated fluid can be combined with reverse osmosis membranes or flash distillation equipment to produce fresh water from salt or brackish sources.
Dr. Prueitt is also one of the early pioneers in 3-D computer graphics. Below is his initial conception of SunCone™ CSP.
Open Energy Corporation believes that SunCone™ CSP has the potential to be less expensive to build, operate, and maintain than competitive parabolic trough or dish power systems. The company has enlisted Hytec Engineering (an award-winning firm based in Los Alamos, New Mexico) to build the first full-scale, operational SunCone™ prototype. Initial testing of this prototype was successful and Open Energy is rapidly moving forward to engineer a commercial product. We believe market opportunities for the technology are very promising.
A single SunCone™ array coupled with battery storage could power a remote village or island resort. A second array could produce potable water from the sea. According to the United Nations, over 1.2 billion people currently lack access to fresh water or reliable power. The opportunities for Open Energy Corporation to team with international organizations and assist in global development initiatives would be very much in alignment with our mission and vision for the company.
Large scale industrial applications for this technology are equally feasible. SunCone™ arrays could provide sunny regions of the world with large scale, carbon-free alternatives to coal or gas fired power plants. The U.S. Department of Energy recently announced its intention to expand concentrating solar power by 1,000 megawatts. Viable target markets for the systems also exist in China, India, Southern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa.

UPCOMING PROJECT

Academy of Science Natural History Museum, San Francisco
Open Energy Corporation has been contracted by the California Academy of Science to engineer and install what will be the largest photovoltaic glass canopy in the United States. Located in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, and designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect, Renzo Piano, the museum promises to be a powerful symbol of environmental design and construction. The photovoltaic canopy will consist of 720 custom-built SolarSave® PV Architectural Glass panels that fully circumnavigates the building, generating over 213,000 watts of electricity.
“This project is a great honor for our company and an extraordinary opportunity to showcase our solar technology. The photovoltaic system and other elements of the project will prevent the annual generation of over 400,000 pounds of CO2. We are thrilled to be a part of the Academy of Science Museum.”
-Steve Coonen, Director of Business Development
